The
I
with reference to your letter of the 15th August 1905, No. 27157/1905, forwarding a copy of a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong, on the subject of the disposal
of a certain area of land around Long Harbour, Mirs Bay;
am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you for the information of the Secretary of State
for the Colonies, that they observe from the copy of
despatch transmitted that the area of land which might be
reserved in the manner proposed by Their Lordships is con-
fined to that which is at present uncultivated and un-
occupied and for which no Crown leases have been issued,
and that for the reasons given the Governor is averse to
such area being reserved as suggested.
2. Under these circumstances My Lords will be
glad to adopt the Governor's proposals, as set out in
paragraphs 4 & 5 of his despatch, viz:-
(a)
(b)
that the Admiralty shall have the first refusal
of any Crown land other than lots for ordinary
oultivation or for the erection of village
houses that the Colonial Goverment may be asked
to sell in the vicinity of Long Harbour and Jones
Cove; and
that the Colonial Government will not license any
places of public entertainment in that neighbour- hood without first obtaining Admiralty concurrence.
Under Secretary of State,
L..P.-No. 8.
Colonial Office.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
Jes. H. Host
per tea.
